Increase in Passenger Traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean from January to April of 2024
Passenger traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean has shown a remarkable growth from January to April of 2024 compared to the same period last year, according to preliminary data from the main markets in the region

Panama, June 25, 2024 – Passenger traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean has shown a remarkable growth from January to April of 2024 compared to the same period last year, according to preliminary data from the main markets in the region. Below are the key findings:

Comparison of January to April 2024 vs 2023

From January to April 2024, total passenger traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean grew by 4.2% compared to the same period in 2023.

Among the main markets, those with the most significant growth were Uruguay (22.1%), followed by Peru (21.2%) and Colombia (16.6%).

Comparison of April 2024 vs April 2023

Total passenger traffic in April 2024 increased by 3.4% compared to April 2023.

Among the main markets, the countries with the highest percentage growth in April 2024 compared to 2023, according to preliminary data from ACI-LAC, are Colombia (22.4%), followed by Peru with 20.0%, Chile (13.0%), and Panama (11.0%).

In contrast, some countries experienced decreases in passenger traffic, notably Mexico, the second-largest market in Latin America, which fell by 3% compared to the previous year. In the cumulative period from January to April, Mexico grew by 0.4% compared to 2023, the lowest growth among the main Latin American markets. Some analysts attribute this decline to various factors, such as the fluctuation in tourist demand, the variation in seasonal travel behaviors, and macroeconomic variables affecting both domestic and international travelers.

"Excluding the atypical situation that has occurred in the Mexican market, the evolution of traffic in the region has been very positive. Thus, what we can see in these preliminary data is that the region presented, in general, remarkable results in the first four months of 2023," said Dr. Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC.
