Panama, May 20, 2025 – Airports Council International – Latin America & Caribbean (ACI-LAC) has published its latest report, Circular Economy in Airports, providing a strategic guide for airports in the region to adopt sustainable and resilient practices through the implementation of circular economy principles.
Airports are embracing circular strategies to transform construction, operations, and resource management, moving away from the traditional linear model. This report presents a structured framework to support this transition and optimize the use of materials and water. Additionally, it highlights success stories in the region, demonstrating how circular economy practices can enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
The document outlines a four-step framework for implementing circular economy principles in airports:
Adopting these principles will not only contribute to environmental sustainability but will also help airports lower operational costs, enhance resilience against resource limitations, and promote innovative economic models.
"Circular economy is not just a trend but a necessity to ensure the sustainability of the airport sector in Latin America and the Caribbean," stated Dr. Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC. "This report provides concrete tools and examples for airports to embrace more environmentally responsible practices."
ACI-LAC invites industry stakeholders to explore the full report and join the conversation on how circular economy principles can transform airport management.
