Airports Council International for Latin America and the Caribbean welcomes the news of the investment and installation of a new ILS CAT IIIb instrument landing system at Carrasco International Airport in Uruguay.

Panama, May 07, 2024 - Airports Council International for Latin America and the Caribbean welcomes the news of the investment and installation of a new ILS CAT IIIb instrument landing system at Carrasco International Airport in Uruguay. ACI-LAC congratulates the Uruguayan government for the initiative as it represents a significant step towards greater connectivity and operational efficiency for the country.

Dr. Rafael Echevarne, General Director of ACI-LAC, highlights: “The investment to be made by Aeropuertos Uruguay, part of the Corporación América Airports group, reflects the company's firm commitment to Uruguay's airport development. The investment in airport infrastructure will not only improve the airport's operational efficiency, but also boost Uruguay's economic growth and competitiveness in the international arena.”

The ILS CAT IIIb instrument landing system is similar to those used at airports in the world's major capital cities and will elevate the airport's status and above all have a very positive impact on connectivity and the aeronautical industry. This system allows aircraft to land in adverse weather and therefore its installation will result in improved connectivity, greater predictability for airlines and a competitive advantage for the development of aviation.

In addition to the new ILS system, Aeropuertos Uruguay received the extension of the management of Punta del Este International Airport, assuming the commitment to make investments in this and other air terminals, and to transform the old passenger terminal at Carrasco Airport into a logistics center.

ACI-LAC reaffirms its commitment to strengthening airport infrastructure in the region and welcomes initiatives that promote connectivity and economic development in Uruguay.
