Airport passenger traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean grew 4.7% in first half of 2024
Top markets recorded an increase of more than 10% and the region consolidates a steady pace of growth.

Panama, August 14, 2024 - Airports Council International Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) presents preliminary passenger traffic data for the region's airports in June and the first half of 2024. This information is based on data from the busiest airports in Latin America and the Caribbean, which together account for more than 90% of the region's air traffic.

First half of 2024
The data shows that passenger volume from January to June 2024 was up 4.7% over the same period last year. The countries showing the most significant increase were Peru, Colombia and Chile, with increases of 20%, 17% and 16%, respectively. Brazil, the main market in Latin America and the Caribbean, grew by 2.6% in the first half, while Mexico, the region's second largest market, grew by 0.6%. Among the most significant countries in terms of traffic volume in the region, Argentina was the only one to record a decrease in passenger traffic (-3.2%).

June 2023 vs. 2024
Preliminary data compiled by ACI-LAC show that in the month of June 2024, passenger traffic growth in Latin America and the Caribbean was 4% compared to June 2023. The region's two main markets, Brazil and Mexico, grew respectively, 3.5% and 0.4% compared to 2023.

ACI-LAC Director General Rafael Echevarne highlighted the importance of the resumption of the steady pace of passenger traffic growth in the region and the good prospects for the coming months.

"The Latin America and Caribbean region is accelerating the pace of passenger traffic growth with respect to the first quarter of the year and we expect the months of July and August to consolidate the development of passenger traffic," commented Echevarne. "This growth is indicative of the recovery and dynamism of the aviation industry in our region, and we anticipate that a positive trend will continue towards the end of the year."
