Innovation, New Revenue Streams and Decarbonization Shape the Future of the Airport Industry
WAGA 2026, which concluded today in Peru, brought together nearly 600 participants; in 2027, ACI-LAC’s annual conference will be held in Guayaquil

Lima, 29 September 2026 – ACI-LAC / ACI World Annual General Assembly & Exhibition - WAGA 2026 concluded this Tuesday (29), bringing to a close the leading global event for the airport industry. This year’s event highlighted the role of airports as drivers of connectivity, innovation and sustainability and was hosted by Lima Airport. Two days of debates and networking brought together a record audience of nearly 600 participants in Lima, Peru, including leading industry executives, government and airport authorities, and specialists in aviation, technology, the environment, management and finance. In 2027, ACI-LAC’s annual conference will be held in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

During the second day of the conference programme, participants followed discussions on geopolitics and aviation, including analysis of the impacts of global changes on the air transport sector. This was followed by a panel on the integration of airports and cities, which reinforced the importance of infrastructure and logistics for urban development and for the communities surrounding airport terminals.

Another key topic was the creation of scalable advanced air mobility ecosystems, followed by discussions on airspace optimization and the future of non-aeronautical businesses and customer experience. The programme also addressed the impact of digital transformation on airports, new investments planned for the sector in Peru, and the role of the private sector in regional airport development.

In the final part of the event, experts discussed the energy transition as a strategic imperative to strengthen airport decarbonization and resilience. The event concluded with a case study on the recovery of Montego Bay International Airport in Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa, as part of a discussion on operational resilience.

WAGA 2026 concluded two days of exchange among industry leaders and specialists, with an agenda focused on the main challenges and opportunities shaping the future of airports, from growing demand and new investment to innovation, sustainability and operational resilience.

“Hosting WAGA 2026 in Lima, at a time of transformation for the country’s airport infrastructure, has a special significance. The industry is entering a new phase: it is no longer only about meeting growing demand, but doing so with innovation, sustainability and resilience. Bringing together nearly 600 leaders and specialists here allows us to share experiences and strengthen the collaboration we need to continue developing the airports of the future,” said Juan José Salmón, President of ACI-LAC and CEO of Lima Airport.

“The discussions at WAGA 2026 made it clear that growing demand, decarbonization and resilience will be among the major challenges facing our industry in the coming years. Addressing them will require investment, innovation and, above all, greater collaboration among airports, governments and the private sector. At ACI-LAC, we will continue to promote this joint effort, and we look forward to meeting again next year in Guayaquil to continue building the future of airports across our region,” said Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC.
