Panama, December 5th, 2024 – The Airports Council International for Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC), together with ACI World and the 4 other ACI offices around the world (ACI Africa, ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East, ACI EUROPE and ACI North America) announces that it is a signatory to the joint declaration, released this Thursday, issued on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Chicago Convention. The established the fundamental principles for the safe and sustainable development of international civil aviation. The statement is signed by 11 other leading global civil aviation organizations (ASA World, CANSO, HERMES, TIACA, Flight Safety Foundation, Airlines for America, AAC, AIRE, AFRAA, ALTA and ERA).
In the declaration, ACI-LAC reinforces its commitment to the future objectives of the sector, aligning itself with the principles of the Chicago Convention. The organization highlights the importance of advancing operations with net zero carbon emissions, promoting a safe and inclusive aviation industry that drives sustainable development.

December 7th 1944 marked a monumental day in the history of commercial aviatiob. 52 visionary states came together to sign the Chigaco Convention having agreed on certain principles and arrengments inorther that international civil aviation may be developed in a safe and orderly manner and that international air transport services may be established on the basis of equality of opportunity and operated soundly and economically.
Those principles still govern the aviation industry eight decades later as international aviation has became a critical component of a modern global economic and community, connecting people and things to people and places. It supports millions of jobs directly and indirectly and contributes to the development of the world.
The International Aviation Forum (IAF), a forum of leding organisations from across all sectors of the aviation community, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the signing of Chicagos Convention, congratulates ICAO for the realizations of the Convention´s vision by its leadership and guidance to 193 member states across the globe.
Under ICAO leadership we can expect the next 80 years to deliver sustainable growth with net zero operations and enhacing a safe and secure commercial aviation sector ensuring no country is left behind and commited to an aviation for all principle that will enhace social and economic development.
