Panama, March 19, 2026 – Airports Council International Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) is pleased to announce the incorporation of the Civil Aeronautics of Colombia (Aerocivil) as a new member, strengthening the regional network of authorities and operators committed to the development of safer, more efficient, and sustainable aviation.
Aerocivil is the aeronautical authority of Colombia, responsible for the regulation, vigilance, and control of civil aviation, as well as the provision of air navigation services and the administration of the country's airspace. Based in Bogotá and with a national presence, it leads the development of the sector in line with Government policies.
Under its administration is a wide network of airports that guarantees Colombia's connectivity and territorial integration. These include international terminals such as El Dorado (Bogotá), Cali, Barranquilla, San Andrés, Armenia, and Leticia, as well as airports undergoing strengthening and internationalization processes, such as Yopal. Additionally, Aerocivil manages multiple regional airports throughout the country —including cities such as Villavicencio, Neiva, Ibagué, Popayán, Pasto, Tumaco, Mitú, and Puerto Carreño, among others— that fulfill an essential role in the connectivity of areas where air transport is key.
In particular, El Dorado International Airport (BOG) is positioned as the main airport in Colombia and one of the busiest in the Americas, in addition to leading air cargo movement in Latin America.
Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC, stated: “We are pleased to welcome Aerocivil to the ACI-LAC community. Its leadership as an aeronautical authority and its management of a strategic airport network provide significant value to strengthen regional collaboration and continue raising industry standards in Latin America and the Caribbean.”
For his part, Luis Alfonso Martínez, Director General of Aerocivil Colombia affirmed: “Being part of ACI-LAC represents an opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation, exchange best practices, and continue promoting the development of civil aviation in Colombia and throughout the region.”
As a new member, Aerocivil will have access to training programs, networking initiatives, knowledge exchange, and international representation, actively contributing to the growth of the airport sector.
